How Does a Wireless Burglar Alarm System Work?

A wireless burglar alarm works by placing battery-powered sensors on doors, windows and rooms that watch for intrusion, then radioing any trigger to a central control panel. The panel sounds a loud siren and instantly alerts you by app, SMS or phone call so you can respond immediately.

What are the main parts of a wireless alarm system?

Every system is built from four building blocks: detection sensors, a control panel, alerting devices (sirens) and remote controls or an app. Together they detect, decide and alert.

  • Sensors: door/window contacts, PIR motion sensors, vibration sensors, shutter sensors, smoke and gas detectors.
  • Control panel: the brain that monitors every sensor and manages arming, disarming and alerts.
  • Sirens: 110–120 dB indoor and outdoor sounders with flashing strobe lights.
  • Controls: mobile app, remote fobs and panic buttons.

How does the system detect an intruder?

Each sensor watches for a specific event. A door sensor detects unauthorised opening; a PIR motion sensor detects body heat and movement across a 110° field of view; a vibration sensor detects impact on safes, shutters or glass.

When a sensor triggers, it sends a 433 MHz radio signal to the control panel in real time.

What happens when the alarm is triggered?

The moment the panel receives a trigger while armed, it activates the siren — up to 120 dB with a flashing strobe — to scare off the intruder and warn neighbours.

At the same time it places alert calls to up to five saved numbers and sends app and SMS notifications, so you know within seconds even if you are away.

Does it also protect against fire and gas leaks?

Yes. The same panel can host smoke and heat detectors and an LPG/CNG gas leak detector, so one system covers both intrusion and life-safety threats. The gas detector responds in under 50 seconds with a loud 70 dB alarm.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the alarm alert me if I am not at home?

Yes. SecureX panels call up to five numbers and send app and SMS alerts the instant a sensor triggers, so you are notified wherever you are.

Can pets set off the motion sensor?

SecureX PIR motion sensors offer pet-friendly detection that ignores small pets while still detecting human intruders across a 110° field of view.
